This is the pattern only, not the finished garment.

Wening Ribbed Top is inspired by wening, a Javanese concept of inner stillness and clear presence. Built on a steady rhythm of ribbing, this sleeveless top explores how repetition creates structure, and how structure allows the body to rest. Each stitch follows a measured pattern, forming a fabric that is both supportive and fluid.

The design is intentionally adaptable. Knit it cropped or longer, simplify the finishing, or add a fancier edging. Whether worn on its own or layered, Wening Ribbed Top reflects a balance between movement and pause—knitted in rhythm, worn in stillness.

PATTERN NOTES

  • This pattern features a seamless saddle-shoulder construction. It begins at the neckline, with each shoulder worked separately. Stitches are then picked up along the saddle-shoulder edges to work the front and back pieces separately down to the underarm. From there, the body is joined and worked in the round.
  • The elastic nature of the ribbing provides sufficient negative ease, allowing the garment to fit closely without the need for additional waist shaping.
  • For optimal results, use yarn with a minimum of 75% wool content. Wool’s natural elasticity supports the ribbing and helps maintain the garment’s close fit. Using less elastic fibers may result in a more relaxed silhouette.
  • Choose between sleeveless or cap sleeves.
